How to apply

The date of your decision impacts how you can ask for a review of that decision by the VRB.

Decision made on or after 21 April 2025

If the date of your decision is on or after 21 April 2025 you can lodge your application for review directly to us at the VRB.

The easiest and safest way to lodge an application for review is by completing the application for review form and lodging it online.

To create an account and lodge an application online, you will need a valid email address and information about the decision you want us to review.
Find out more about using our online services.

You can download and fill in an application form and send it to us.

Alternatively, you can ask us for a review by emailing reviews@vrb.gov.au .

If you want to lodge an application in person at one of our registries, or by post or email check our contact details.

Information to give us when you apply directly to us at the VRB

When you apply directly to the VRB for a review, we need:

  • your name, postal address, telephone number and email address
  • your DVA client number or DVA unique identification number (UIN)
  • the date you received the decision
  • the decision reference number
  • a copy of the decision
  • brief reasons why you think the decision is wrong.

If you cannot send us a copy of the decision, then include:

  • a brief description of the decision
  • the date the decision was made
  • the decision reference number

Decision made before 21 April 2025

If the date of your decision is before 21 April 2025 you must lodge your application for review with the Department of Veterans’ Affairs or the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission.  They will then then provide us with a copy of the decision you want reviewed.

Find out more on the DVA website.

Applications for review made before 21 April 2025

If you submitted your application for review with Department of Veterans’ Affairs or the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission before 21 April 2025 you do not need to do anything as your application will continue to be reviewed by the VRB.
